Email Template/Call Script for Democratic Member of Congress

Dear [Member Title and Name]:

My name is [First Name Last Name]. I am from [City, State], and I was a [Insert USAID role/background]. I urge you to stand with your constituents like me in opposition to the administration’s actions to destroy U.S. foreign assistance and to use all tools at your disposal to fight this illegal usurpation of congressional power. Congress appropriates funds for foreign assistance because Members understand its importance for protecting our national security and advancing our national interests.

I implore you to stand firm with your Democratic colleagues to present a united front against the administration’s unconstitutional effort to seize the power of the purse. [IF SENATOR] To this end, I ask that you oppose any appropriations bills or continuing resolutions and block floor votes on nominations brought forth by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, unless they contain guarantees that the administration will spend money as Congress has directed.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

[Your City, State]

Email Template/Call Script for Republican Member of Congress

Dear [Member Title and Name]:

My name is [First Name Last Name]. I am from [City, State], and I was a [Insert USAID role/background]. International assistance is a critical, strategic tool of American national and economic security. Providing emergency food assistance, fighting epidemics before they reach our shores, and creating economic opportunity so other countries buy American products are in our national interest.

In light of the indiscriminate cuts to foreign assistance, I ask you to stand with your constituents like me and publicly urge the administration to halt and reverse all terminations of active foreign assistance programs and immediately resume the disbursement of Congressionally appropriated foreign assistance funds, in line with Congress’s power of the purse.

There is still time to speak out publicly to reverse the self-defeating dismantling of foreign assistance in order to advance Secretary Rubio’s directive for a foreign policy that makes America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

[Your City, State]
